Home Security: How Safe is Your Home?

Home security is very important, especially if you want to be sure you are well-protected against would-be burglars. We are well-aware of the need to protect ourselves against doorstep fraudsters, but is your home secure in other ways as well?

Truth is, burglars will choose properties they feel are easier to break into. They don’t want to get caught, so they are less likely to choose a property that has CCTV or a burglar alarm – both of which are visible deterrents.

You can start by looking at the locks in your home. Focus on windows as well as doors. They should have the best-quality locks you can afford. If one is broken and you keep meaning to get it fixed, put it to the top of your list of things to do.

You can also focus on other easy ways to improve your home security. For example, a driveway or path laid with gravel is impossible to walk on without making noise. Prickly bushes planted underneath windows can scratch and cut someone who might try to get into the property that way.

These are all easy things to do, and Thrift Urban Housing’s building handyman service can deal with a range of maintenance and building tasks for both homeowners and business owners. Another of our schemes, the Stay Put scheme aimed at elderly and vulnerable people in the London area, focuses on helping them feel and be safe at home. Proper security is a key issue for many people, and we can help those in London focus on making sure their own properties are as safe as they can possibly be.

Getting rid of spare keys hidden outside, making sure nothing is left lying around that could help someone break in and ensuring the property is always secure – these are all key elements to consider. Make sure you do everything you can to protect your property and to help those around you who might not be able to do everything to protect themselves. We can all help reduce the incidence of crime in our own areas if we work together.
